２０１７奈良の牡丹　當麻寺西南院

皆様、本日も夏の陽気となりましたが、健やかにお過ごしでしょうか。本日は當麻寺の２回目として、西南院のボタンをお届けいたします。
西南院は、飛鳥時代に當麻寺が創建された際に、裏鬼門の守りの寺院として建立されました。８２３年に弘法大師が西南院に留錫し曼荼羅堂で「いろは歌」を想念し、この時から高野山真言宗の寺院となり現在に至っています。本尊は十一面観音菩薩で、聖観音菩薩、千手観音菩薩と共に重要文化財に指定されています。関西花の寺二十五ヶ所霊場の２１番霊場に指定されていて、花以外にもユニークな名前の木もあり、花の寺として関西では有名な寺院です。

建物の後にある庭園は国宝の西塔を東側に組み入れ、通常はその優姿を池泉に映した素晴らしい光景を目にすることができるのですが、塔が修復のため覆われており、本年は見ることができませんでした。
